Uncaged Melody

Morning Tea

Morning Tea

“I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”
And yet do I know, I must set it free
For its song belongs not only to me

My heart once its captor,
Opens the door and watch as a lamenter
Blazed eyes shaded against scorched sun,
The feelings I had, return to none

The melody of old times stream
Into a crescendo of a once beautiful dream
Still were never mine, only for pretend
They belonged to others but I defend

Holding the key in shaky hand
Released to twilight sky and land
Understanding a bird never should be tied
And in this peace am I satisfied

Its song now blends in rivers, oceans and seas
The cage wide open, it has been freed
And I rest in its soothing melody
A descant, always, to return to me
